An exciting area of research pioneered by the South African Brain Research Institute (SABRI)<\/p>\n

SUMMARY<\/strong><\/p>\n

SABRI scientists have been using psychotropic analgesic nitrous oxide (PAN) which has proved an exceptional agent to investigate the endorphina<\/sup> system in humans. They have uncovered a new prin\u00adciple in biology, namely that gases can be involved in neuro\u00adtransmission. They have also developed the most safe, rapid method of treating alcoholic and other addictive drug withdrawal states as well as identifying the presence of a pain producing endorphin system, which could result in the production of almost the ideal pain killer. They were also the first workers to show that the endorphin system was involved in human sexual function and various neuropsychiatric disorders. SABRI’s neuropsychiatric investigations continue.<\/p>\n

a<\/sup> Footnote: The endorphin system, found in the brain and when stimulated, mimics the effects of substances such as morphine. It is involved in many functions, including mood, pain and pleas\u00adure. It was discovered between 1972-1975.<\/p>\n
